Strengthening the Single European Market
To expand and consolidate the Single European Market, technical barriers to trade (like differing national standards) need to be reduced.
It is the goal of the European Standardisation to strengthen the competitiveness of the European economy in a global market by developing common solutions.
The European Committee for Standardization CEN represents, with its 31 national members (standards institutes), the platform for the development of European Standards and other specifications in all subject fields except elctrical engineering and telecommunication. Austria is represented in CEN by the Austrian Standards Institute.
To ensure a uniform European body of standards, certain principles apply.
