Standardisation in Austria

Today, standards are primarily developed on a European and international level. However, there is a demand for national standards in certain areas.

Austrian Standards Institute is the platform for the development of standards (ÖNORMEN) and regulations in Austria.

As the Austrian member of the European Committee for Standardization CEN and the International Organization for Standardization ISO, Austrian Standards Institute provides the opportunity to participate in designing European and International standards (EN or ISO).

Around 5 900 experts from economics, consumer organisations, administration and sciences are involved in the development of ÖNORMEN in about 180 committees with more than 400 working groups.

They also ensure that Austrian interests and opinions find their way into European and international standardisation.
