The European and International standards organisations (CEN and ISO) work together on the basis of the so-called "Vienna Agreement".

This agreement – signed in 1991 on the premises of Austrian Standards Institute – contributes to avoid concurrent work.

On the basis of this agreement standards are being prepared which suit both the status of a European standard as well as an International standard (ÖNORM EN ISO).
