Basic Principles of European Standardisation

In order to ensure a unitary European set of standards, the following principles apply:

  • Commitment to suspend activities:
In the case of a standard being developed on a European level, no national standards-projects on the same topic may proceed to be developed simultaneously.

  • Commitment to implement:
European standards must be adopted into the national set of standards without alteration. In Austria, they are called ÖNORM EN.

  • Commitment to withdraw:
National standards, which contradict European standards must be withdrawn.
