International Standards facilitate the worldwide cooperation in the fields of economy, science and technology.

The International Organization for Standardization ISO and the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC are responsible for the preparation of international standards.

ISO is a worldwide, independent association of the official standards institutes from 160 countries (founded 1947) based in Geneva/Switzerland. Austrian Standards Institute is the Austrian member in ISO. In IEC Austria is represented through the OVE.
