Procedure

As soon as the Committee has adopted the proposal for preparation of an Austrian Standard (ÖNORM) on national level, the public and possible interested parties are informed about the standards project as well as on the possibility of cooperation. Furthermore, the other CEN members are also informed ("notified") of the project.

A working group appointed by the Committee will then develop the proposal within a fixed time schedule. A commitee manager of Austrian Standards Institute will supervise the project during its entire cycle.

After completion of work, the Committee will decide if the proposal can be submitted to public enquiry as ÖNORM-Entwurf (Draft Austrian Standard).

If the Committee votes with no dissentient (consensus) for the publication of the Draft Standard, the public will be given the possibility to comment on the content of the Draft Austrian Standard within a time period of six weeks. A special "table of comments" is availble for this purpose.

The comments received on the basis of this procedure will then be discussed by the Committee (if possible, with the participation of those people having sent the comments), i.e.: the comments will be either accepted or rejected with mention of the reasons. Depending on the kind and extent of amendments, the Committee will decide either to withdraw the Draft from its work programme, to prepare a second Draft or to adopt it and to publish it as ÖNORM (Austrian Standard).
