Development of a national standard (ÖNORM)
Everybody can - mentioning the reasons - submit a proposal for the preparation of a new Austrian Standard (ÖNORM) or ask for the revision of an existing standard.
If a technical committee dealing with the respective subject already exists within Austrian Standards Institute, it will evaluate - jointly with the applicant - the proposal for new development / revision of the standard.
For this purpose it will be investigated if similar standardising works are already carried out on European level. If yes, national developments have to be discontinued because of the so-called "standstill agreement" (except: the revision of existing ÖNORMs for which an exemption from the standstill obligation can be requested from the European Committee for Standardization CEN).
Furthermore, relevant legal provisions, possible patents and trademark rights, possible international and foreign standards are detected and the interested parties (stakeholder) determined. It is also possible to consider the developemnt of an ON-Regel (ON Rule).
