Company profile
Austrian Standards Institute is a neutral and independent service organisation – not a federal authority or agency. As a private non-profit association (Österreichisches Normungsinstitut) it provides (since 1920) the platform for the development of norms, rules and standards.
Companies, federal authorities, science and consumers take advantage of this service. In the committees, they design the contents of the rules and standards which they require and apply in practice.
Legal framework for the activities of Austrian Standards Institute is the Standardisation Law (Normengesetz) from 1971.
As Austrian member of the European Committee for Standardization CEN and the International Organization for Standardization ISO, Austrian Standards Institute enables and coordinates the Austrian experts' participation in the development of European and International standards.
